Information
Since 1992 due different exchange programs about 60 thousand specialists
in different areas have visited the USA. Coming back they have a wish
to keep relationships with the people they met in the USA, to be informed
about the life of the country, to have an ability to get more information
about the country they visited. From this the idea of American corners
and centers appeared. The first one was an American center in Moscow in
the Library of foreign literature. The other ones appeared a bit later
in many cities of Russia: St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Vologda,
Saratov. American corner in Kaliningrad was opened on December,17 in 2002
in the City Central Library by A.P. Chekhov. In the ceremony of opening
the ambassador of the USA Alexander Vershbow took part.
The all resources of the Corner can be divided into 5 groups. The first one contains books about the USA: the Constitution, other laws, information about the Congress, the presidents administration. The second group includes reference books, maps, atlases, encyclopedias, literature on the history of America.  The third one presents literature for English teachers and for students who study English The fourth one is for the people who are interested in American business: reference books for business people, information about firms. The fifth one is for the people who want to study in America. You can find information about Universities, colleges. |
