American corner in Kaliningrad

Central city library by A.P. Chekhov was opened in 1946,
in 1954 it was named in honour of A.P. Chekhov, a great Russian writer.. Since 1979 it has been heading the sustem of city libraries.
There are 117 thousand of different books and magazines in its funds. The library gets periodics – about 255 kinds of newspapers and magazines. The number of our clients is 14 thousand people.There are some departments in the library:
Information department
It includes alphabetical catalog, the catalog of the history of Kaliningrad region, the catalog of newspaper articles, the catalog of the tiles of the books. For our readers we offer electronic catalog of books and articles, computer informative bases “Garant”, “Consultant”, “Consultant plus”.

Electronic documents department
It offers opportunities to work with electronic bases which include the descriptions of 200 hundred books and articles from the fund of the library. They also can work with encyclopedias and dictionaries on the CDs. Internet is also for them.
The opening of the department allows to use new forms of getting information, to make higher the level of service. Reading hall

Our clients can learn about new periodics and work with it, take books home “Nochnoi abonement”, make a copy of each document. There are encyclopedias here, new books on economy, the works of the Russian and foreign philosophers, collections of materials on the history of Kaliningrad and region.
Art department

It includes about 12 thousand of books, videos, note books. We ogive an opportunity to listen to records. At one of the halls we organize meetings with writers, painters, historians.
Methodical department
The main tasks of the department are to organize the work of the library, to make its strategies, to organize events for public
In November 2002 IATP hall was opened. It gives the opportunities to use Internet.
In December 2002 American corner was opened.
